“Away From Keyboard” and is used when a player steps away from their computer. Also see "BRB" To set your status as afk, use the command /afk. |
| Bot |
A non-human player controlled by AI or malicious programs. |
| BRB |
"Be Right Back" used interchangeably with AFK to indicate when a player steps away from their computer. |
| Caving |
The act of entering caves to collect resources or to find loot. Also referred to as: Mining |
| Chunks |
An invisible 16x16 block area that extends from the very bottom to the very top of the world. Divides the world into a grid of small sections (chunks). You can toggle the visibility of chunk borders by using the keyboard shortcut F3+G. |
| Cooldown |
The time a player ust wait before using an ability again. |
| Coords or Co-ords |
Short for "Coordinates" pertains to the x y and z positions, typically of a player but can also be used to define the location of a structure or item/block. Can be seen in the tablist by holding down the "tab" key on your keyboard. |
| Drops |
Beneficial items eared, typically through killing creatures (mobs). Also see: "Loot" |
| Farming |
The repetitive act of killing enemies or performing tasks to gain experience points or loot. Also known as "Grinding" |
| GG |
“Good Game”; usually said after a game ends though is often used as a form of congratulations on an achievement. |
| Griefing |
Intentionally annoying, harassing, or trolling other players. Also used to reference the intentional breaking of player or community builds. |
| Grinder |
Short for "Mob Grinder" used to describe a build designed to optimize the killing and collection of mobs and the items they produce. Related to: "Grinding" |
| Grinding |
The repetitive act of killing enemies or performing tasks to gain experience points or loot. Also known as "Farming" |
| Hacking |
When a player exploits a bug (flaw) in the game to get an unfair advantage. |
| Hitbox |
The specifically sized invisible area (field) that surrounds or partially surrounds an object or creature that detects collisions, such as hits. |
| Lag |
When there’s a delay between a player’s action and on-screen activity. Can be due to either the server's performance or players connection. |
| Loot |
Beneficial items found, typically in world generated containers. Also see: Drops |
| Mob |
Short for "Monster" used to describe any creature in the game. Can refer to peaceful or hostile creatures though is typically used more for hostile creatures. |
| Mod |
Short for “modification”; refers to when a player changes an aspect of the game to create a new feature. Can also refer to a "Moderator" or staff position that helps run/manage the server mechanics or player interactions. On Minehaus people who hold this role are called Stagehands. |
| OP |
"OverPowered" when a player, item, or ability is too strong compared to others. |
| Ping |
A measure of the time it takes for data to travel from the player's computer to the game server. You can check your ping by using the command /ping. You can broadcast this number in chat by typing [ping]. |
| PvE |
"Player Vs. Environment" used to describe a when the challenges a player faces come from the game itself vs other players. This could be a monster that players have to beat for example. |
| PvP |
“Player Vs. Player" used to describe when two or more players fight each other. |
| Rage Quit |
When a player abruptly leaves a game out of frustration or anger. Typically, after losing a lot of progress or items. |
| Spawn |
The act of a player or enemy appearing in the world. By extension used to describe the location where new players join the game. |
| Spawner |
A block capable of periodically creating monsters. Can be surrounded by light to prevent this functionality. Typically utilized in mob farms. |
| Spleef |
A mini game played within the game where players attempt to destroy the floor under their opponents forcing them to fall into a pit until only 1 player remains. Can also refer to an act like this outside a minigame. |
| Stack |
Refers to a full inventory slot's worth of a block or item. Typically refers to a quantity of 64 with a few exceptions. |
| Tablist |
For Java Players, this describes a menu that appears while holding down the "tab" key on your keyboard. Shows the players that are online as well as additional helpful information like a player's location and the current world they are in. |
| Toxic |
Describes negative behavior or attitudes in the gaming community. Can also be used to describe a player who demonstrates these qualities. |
| TP or Tpa |
Short for "Teleport" used to describe a game mechanic of being able to instantly move to another location. Could be to another player or a specific location in the world. |
| Vanilla |
Minecraft without any modifications. Refers to the experience that a player would normally have if they did not play on a server. |
| WB |
"Welcome Back" A greeting used when a player joins the game or returns from being AFK. |
| XP |
"eXperience Points" A type of reward typically gained from killing creatures that can be exchanged to improve other items (such as armor, weapons etc.) |
